Vera Navis will be present at Simulation Seminar 29 May, 2019

News, Seminars

Reduction of time and cost in the design and manufacture of products through simulation

Wednesday, 29 May 2019 – 9.00 to 12.00h – Local: Hotel Premium, Porto – Maia.

From Vera Navis, Tiago Fernandes will speak about:

Ship Structural Assessment for Increasing Operation Conditions in Harsh Environments.

Over the past years we witnessed a demand for increasing internal pressure on the cargo tank of specialized vessels. Despite all the experience in designing different vessel types, we found the need to use computational tools (FEM) to evaluate and re-design the main structure according to all new operational conditions.
Due to the existence of several different operational scenarios, at the beginning of the project we defined which were the more demanding load cases for the structure. Despite many advances and setback throughout the entire project, the team reached a solution to satisfy the client needs and, bearing in mind all the construction process, to avoid complex challenges at future phases.
The global overview of the project, using a cross-disciplinary and collective constructivism, contributed to a better end-product with lower risks and bottlenecks throughout the certification and construction phases of the vessel.

Tiago Fernandes – Aerospace Engineer

Tiago Fernandes studied Aerospace Engineer and guided his professional experience to computational tools and expertise within multidisciplinary engineer projects. With participation in projects for individual or complex assembly structural assessment, computational fluid dynamics to evaluate pressure, temperature and other relevant variables and projects in data analysis and machine learning techniques, the accumulated expertise allows a broad point of view in each day-to-day engineering problem.

After four years working as a consultant for multiple industries like automotive, aerospace, naval and heavy industries, arose the opportunity to embrace a naval engineering career making use of all previous expertise and complement it by learning the necessary set of skills and knowledge to address both project and construction of a vessel. He is currently working as a Project Manager at Vera Navis, ensuring that all production information comply with client tight schedule and ongoing improvements/decisions as well as the constant technological challenges.

Vera Navis presence at Seatec 2019

News

From 3 to 5 April 2019 Vera Navis was present at the 17th edition of Seatec, the International Exhibition of technology, subcontracting and design for boats, yachts and ships, which is addressed to the professional operator (companies, shipyards), the only event dedicated to the sector in Italy and southern Europe, conceived and organized by IMM CarraraFiere – Marina di Carrara.

With the aim of promoting and strengthening visibility at an international level, Vera Navis has established first-level contacts with other companies in the sector.
Exchanging ideas and create commercial activity with possible clients, suppliers and partners in Italy was also one of the great objectives for this event.

We will soon be attending Nor-Shipping in Oslo, Seawork in Southampton and Europort in Rotterdam.

10 years have passed, we’re wiser than ever!

News

Creating a new independent Ship Design office was no obvious choice back in 2009. Doing it in Lisbon was, well… borderline insanity?

But, looking back, probably those years of hard struggle, amidst the financial crisis and within a geography which had slowly parted from its shipbuilding industry, were instrumental in our direction.

We innovated with our flexible approach to the industry, we introduced new tools in the market, and we have developed new methods and workflows, always listening to our clients.

We assumed an international profile from day one, promoting our services wherever they were needed, and we keep proud of consistently exporting over 90% of our services to several different markets.

It has been an intense journey and it’s a path we couldn’t have made without the help of our families, friends and clients, and to whom we’re deeply grateful.

The team has grown, became wiser, but we’re feeling younger than ever. 10 years have passed since we have incorporated. We’re teenagers now!

Ferguson Marine Engineering Launch MV Glen Sannox

News

On 21st November, Ferguson Marine Engineering Limited (“FMEL“) successfully launched MV Glen Sannox at its Port Glasgow Shipyard, the first ship of a series of two Ro-Ro Ferries for the Caledonian Maritime Shipowner Assets Limited (“CMAL“).

Glen Sannox is the first LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and Marine Gas Oil (MGO) to be built in the UK, being the first with this typology to be operated by Caledonian MacBrayne

The construction of this 102-meter ship began in 2016 and is scheduled for delivery in the winter of 2018/2019. It is planned to operate in different ports in Scotland, however, the Ardrossan – Brodick route will be the first to be served, ensuring the transport of up to 1,000 passengers and 127 cars.

During the launch ceremony attended by Scotland’s first minister Nicola Sturgeon, Ferguson Marine thanked the subcontractors “I would like to thank all our collaborators and subcontractors for the significant efforts to ensure a successful launch and also a commitment to ensure that we will continue to develop the company in the sense of becoming a world reference in construction and naval engineering”.

FMEL and CMAL are working closely to define the operating principles and critical operations that stem from the nature of the project and the environment in which the ship will operate. The main technological partners, of which Vera Navis stands out, have cooperate with the Shipowner, Operator and Shipyard to provide all technical support.

Vera Navis provides the entire three-dimensional model and all Construction \ Coordination plans for the detail design of Structures, Fluid and Gas networks, Ventilation & Air Conditioning model and Electrical Network \ Cable Ladders.

Vera Navis participates, together with the main suppliers of equipment and engineering such as Wartsila, Kongsberg and TTS, in the construction of the best possible solutions within a very demanding contractual framework and of high responsibility.
