Last Friday we were present at the official presentation of SR2 (São Rafael 02) at the Instituto Superior Técnico. The SR2 is the second version of a Solar Power Boat, developed by Técnico Solar Boat, with the purpose of participating in worldwide university competitions.
As a sponsor of this project for the second consecutive year, we wish the best of luck for the Solar & Energy Boat Challenge taking place in Monaco in July 2019.

Reduction of time and cost in the design and manufacture of products through simulation
Wednesday, 29 May 2019 – 9.00 to 12.00h – Local: Hotel Premium, Porto – Maia.
From Vera Navis, Tiago Fernandes will speak about:
Ship Structural Assessment for Increasing Operation Conditions in Harsh Environments.
Over the past years we witnessed a demand for increasing internal pressure on the cargo tank of specialized vessels. Despite all the experience in designing different vessel types, we found the need to use computational tools (FEM) to evaluate and re-design the main structure according to all new operational conditions. Due to the existence of several different operational scenarios, at the beginning of the project we defined which were the more demanding load cases for the structure. Despite many advances and setback throughout the entire project, the team reached a solution to satisfy the client needs and, bearing in mind all the construction process, to avoid complex challenges at future phases. The global overview of the project, using a cross-disciplinary and collective constructivism, contributed to a better end-product with lower risks and bottlenecks throughout the certification and construction phases of the vessel.
Tiago Fernandes – Aerospace Engineer
Tiago Fernandes studied Aerospace Engineer and guided his professional experience to computational tools and expertise within multidisciplinary engineer projects. With participation in projects for individual or complex assembly structural assessment, computational fluid dynamics to evaluate pressure, temperature and other relevant variables and projects in data analysis and machine learning techniques, the accumulated expertise allows a broad point of view in each day-to-day engineering problem.
After four years working as a consultant for multiple industries like automotive, aerospace, naval and heavy industries, arose the opportunity to embrace a naval engineering career making use of all previous expertise and complement it by learning the necessary set of skills and knowledge to address both project and construction of a vessel. He is currently working as a Project Manager at Vera Navis, ensuring that all production information comply with client tight schedule and ongoing improvements/decisions as well as the constant technological challenges.

MAURIC was granted the design project for TEREVAU PITI, the new 77m Ro-Ro Passenger Ship for French Shipowner SNGV2.
This tailor made ferry will secure for daily services between Papeete and Moorea and secure trips to Leeward Islands, in French Polynesia.
Vera Navis is proud to be one of the trusted engineering services suppliers of MAURIC and will provide structural detail design for the superstructure of the vessel using ShipConstructor.
From 3 to 5 April 2019 Vera Navis was present at the 17th edition of Seatec, the International Exhibition of technology, subcontracting and design for boats, yachts and ships, which is addressed to the professional operator (companies, shipyards), the only event dedicated to the sector in Italy and southern Europe, conceived and organized by IMM CarraraFiere – Marina di Carrara.
With the aim of promoting and strengthening visibility at an international level, Vera Navis has established first-level contacts with other companies in the sector. Exchanging ideas and create commercial activity with possible clients, suppliers and partners in Italy was also one of the great objectives for this event.

Vera Navis was chosen to provide structural and system detail design to two Aquaculture Support Vessel’s.
The first vessel is 21m and has been designed for multirole mooring, grid work and general services while the second vessel will be 26m long and will perform mechanical treatment, as well as sitework tasks, and is intended for a long-term charter with one of the largest salmon producers in Scotland.

There are several ways to celebrate 10 years of existence. We chose to sail in the waters of the Tejo by performing our first Vera Navis Sailing Team Regatta.
With a total of 30 co-workers distributed by 5 teams, Vera Navis sailed the Tejo in a healthy and fun competition, enjoying the view of Lisbon from a different perspective with the precious help from Terra Incógnita and its highly competent and professional team.
We look forward to continue working together and see what the next 10 years will hold us.

Creating a new independent Ship Design office was no obvious choice back in 2009. Doing it in Lisbon was, well… borderline insanity?
But, looking back, probably those years of hard struggle, amidst the financial crisis and within a geography which had slowly parted from its shipbuilding industry, were instrumental in our direction.
We innovated with our flexible approach to the industry, we introduced new tools in the market, and we have developed new methods and workflows, always listening to our clients.
We assumed an international profile from day one, promoting our services wherever they were needed, and we keep proud of consistently exporting over 90% of our services to several different markets.
It has been an intense journey and it’s a path we couldn’t have made without the help of our families, friends and clients, and to whom we’re deeply grateful.
The team has grown, became wiser, but we’re feeling younger than ever. 10 years have passed since we have incorporated. We’re teenagers now!

For the second consecutive year, Vera Navis supports and sponsors the Technical Solar Boat project.
Técnico Solar Boat is a university project consisting of cross-degree engineering students at Instituto Superior Técnico that work together on the development of a solar powered boat. It is approximately 5,2m long by 2.4m wide, with the purpose of participating in worldwide university competitions organized by Solar1, such as Monaco Solar & Electric Boat Challenge.
These competitions consist of speed, endurance, time trials and maneuverability races to test the boat’s performance but at the same time having the goal of evaluating the technological advances in the area.

The 2019 R2 release of SSI’s ShipConstructor & EnterprisePlatform is focused on STREAMLINING. Increased automation, auto-assigning standards, enhanced Clash Detection and an overall reduction in procedural steps all define the improvements to this release.
It is now easier than ever to find and share information from the ShipConstructor Marine Information Model, as EnterprisePlatform provides an improved method to navigate the Operations function, using the new Operations Browser. Whether gathering information to curate, collate and share within or across departments, the EnterprisePlatform Operations Browser helps to efficiently manage existing operations used to automate repetitive, time consuming error prone manual processes.
