Launch of the IANA, Thecla Bodewes 1st SALMO series

News, Projects, ShipConstructor

Vera Navis is proud to have contributed to the successful launch of the IANA, a 5,050 dwt diesel-electric multi-purpose vessel and the first in Thecla Bodewes Shipyards‘ SALMO series. Commissioned by Transtal Shipping BV, the IANA exemplifies sustainable innovation in ship design.

Our team provided comprehensive structural detail design and systems detail design services, ensuring the vessel’s robust construction and efficient system integration. The IANA’s modular diesel-electric propulsion system and optimized hull design position it as a future-ready vessel, prepared for alternative fuels such as methanol or hydrogen.

We are honored to have collaborated with Thecla Bodewes Shipyards on this pioneering project, contributing to the advancement of fuel versatile maritime solutions.

Full Electric Ferry Delivered to SNAM in La Spezia

News, Projects, ShipConstructor

SNAM, Italy’s leading gas utility company and manager of the Panigaglia regasification plant, received a newly built, fully electric RoRo ferry designed for operations in the Gulf of La Spezia.

Constructed by Holland Shipyards in the Netherlands, the vessel was transported from Rotterdam to Italy aboard a general cargo ship.

Built to RINA Class standards for coastal areas, the ferry is optimized for operation in the protected waters of La Spezia.

The double-ended ferry is designed as a modern battery-powered shuttle ferry, featuring dual-fuel diesel auxiliary propulsion. It is designed to transport up to four LNG tank trucks per trip, directly connecting to the national road network, thereby reducing traffic on local urban roads near the Panigaglia LNG terminal.

Key specifications include an overall length of 50.2 meters, a beam of 13.89 meters, and propulsion provided by two 300 kW L-drive thrusters powered by a battery pack exceeding 1 MWh capacity.

Vera Navis is proud to be a trusted supplier of engineering services to Holland Shipyards Group and contributed to this project by providing a complete engineering package. This project ranges concept design, basic design, structures and systems detail design.

The Tara Polar Station Project

News, Projects

Vera Navis Ship Design is proud to have contributed to the groundbreaking Tara Polar Station project, recently floated at CMN (Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie) shipyard in Cherbourg, France.

Commissioned by the Tara Ocean Foundation and designed by MAURIC, this innovative design will play a crucial role in advancing polar research.

Our involvement in this ambitious project included providing structural detail design for the Geode, a key component of the vessel’s unique architecture, and the coordination of all systems and equipment outfitting, plus its corresponding production information.

Designed to drift with the ice pack, the Tara Polar Station exemplifies the state-of-the-art in polar research stations, and Vera Navis is honored to be part of this endeavor.
